Exploring and Preserving Hampshire’s Heritage
Since 1885, the Hampshire Field Club and Archaeological Society has been exploring, studying, documenting and fighting to preserve the county’s rich environment and heritage.
Now founded on four sections of specialised interest: Archaeology, Historic Buildings, Landscape and Local History, the society realises its objectives through publications, organised events, research, grant awards and partnerships with other organisations.
At the core of the Society is its extensive Library of articles, field reports, monographs and scientific papers on the archaeology, history, geology and natural history of the county.
This collection uniquely captures the historical essence of Hampshire and represents an invaluable contribution to the records of the county’s heritage.
Membership brings a range of benefits including lectures, site visits, privileged access to the Society’s publications and the opportunity to join in the activities of members focused on special areas of interest.

Keep up to date with the biannual Newsletter, and pursue more academic research in the pages of Hampshire Studies; investigate specialised topics with Hampshire Papers and view recent archaeological discoveries in Archaeology in Hampshire; explore more comprehensive site reports via a series of Monographs.
It’s the Society’s aim to make as much material freely available as possible. The Monographs and Archaeology in Hampshire can now be accessed online, as can Hampshire Studies more than three years old. Various Newsletters are also online, with more intended in the near future.
Topical Programmes
The Field Club instigates or supports a number of programmes to further its aims of bringing aspects of Hampshire history to a wide audience.
Medieval Graffiti explores the fascinating and often overlooked marks left by people in buildings both religious and secular, offering new insights into medieval and later life.
Celebrating Hampshire’s Historians explores the lives and work of more than 200 individuals who have contributed to our understanding of the county’s past.
Off the Beaten Track provides pointers to sites and features which might otherwise pass you by.
Membership
Membership rates are £30 for one person or £35 for two people at the same address. This will bring you a Spring and Autumn Newsletter, and the annual journal Hampshire Studies, post-free, as soon as it’s published (usually in November). The student rate for this package is £22.
Those who do not want Hampshire Studies can pay £15 for one person or £20 for two people at the same address; the student rate is £12.
Anyone joining between 1st October and 31st December will have these 3 months free, in addition to a membership for the following year.
All members can attend any Field Club event, subject to the arrangements put in place by the appropriate Section. They also receive substantial discounts on most Society publications.
